Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.
We came upon this prayer by
Saint Ignatius and wondered, certainly as a Jesuit the generous heart of Pope Francis was
formed, informed by the sentiments that Saint Ignatius begs for himself and his
Society in this prayer. And clearly it is not a prayer for Jesuits only, but one
we can all recite with devotion.
