This
morning Saint Paul prays that we may be “rooted and grounded in love, (and) may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones
what is the breadth and length and height and
depth, and to know the love of
Christ that surpasses knowledge, so
that (we) may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
We are struck by the breathtaking beauty of our
call as Christians- to be filled with the fullness of God which is Christ; he
in us, we in him. And so we recall again the words of Jesus to the Samaritan
woman at the well, “If only you knew the gift of God
and who is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him instead and
he would have given you living water.” Christ Jesus is moving near,
longing to surround us. If only we knew. If
only we understood who it is who wants to make his home in our hearts, we would
ask him over and over, and he would come to us in secret and fill us.
